About
Colleen Carlson is originally from Canada and has been a long time resident of New York City. Having a background in fashion, she found her home in contemporary ceramic design. Working from her Brooklyn based studio, she creates sculptural and decorative hand built forms. She employs a technique utilizing extruded coils to create a woven effect for many of her signature pieces making her work uniquely identifiable.
The end result mesmerizes and creates an animated, three dimensional optical pattern. This “woven” motif is used in the various forms she creates – wall hangings, lamps, sculptural objects. One noted architect described her work as having “a sublime sensibility married to virtuoso craftsmanship”.
Carlson has been featured in Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, Vogue and Ceramics Monthly. Her work is exhibited and collected internationally.
