Hailing from western Canada, Colleen Carlson is a skilled ceramicist based in Long Island City, New York. With a strong background in fashion, Colleen has always been drawn to the power of aesthetics and precision. Her unique hand-built ceramic pieces draw inspiration from a variety of sources, including geometric, architectural, mathematical and organic forms. Through her work, she aims to create a sense of mood and continuity of motion, often employing undulating forms, spirals and playful symbols to achieve stunning optical effects.

Colleen's work is influenced by a range of great artists, including Victor Vasarely, Bridget Riley, Vernon Panton, and Buckminster Fuller. These artistic inspirations constantly challenge and inspire Colleen to execute her own creative vision using the medium of clay.

In the last few years, she’s incorporated lighting into her work, which explores the interplay between form, light and space. She’s fused art and funcuality with ceramic wall mounted sculpture and illuminated free standing sculpture.

Noted by a prominent NYC architect and interior designer for her "sublime sensibility married to virtuoso craftsmanship," Colleen's work is highly regarded and collected internationally.
